What is the initial consultation like?

The initial consultation is an opportunity to get clarity on what you are hoping to achieve in therapy and gain insight into the way I work.  It is a one-hour session where we explore what brought you to therapy and take a look at your personal history. It is also a chance to see how you feel sharing your story, as well as to answer any questions you have about therapy and how we might work together.

It may be that you are looking for short term counselling (approx 12 sessions) or long term, open ended support.  Together, we will explore the best course of action for you. There is no obligation that we work together by coming in for an initial consultation.

If I am unable to help, I have a network of colleagues and will do my best to help people looking for help starting the process of therapy.

How often will we have appointments?

If you decide you would like to continue sessions, we will arrange a day and time to meet. Usually this is a weekly appointment but sometimes we may decide to work together on a different basis e.g. biweekly, monthly etc. We will decide based on what is best suited for your needs.

What if I want to end therapy?

If you decide not to continue, that’s absolutely okay. From the start, I aim to talk about how you’re finding therapy and welcome honest conversations about what’s working or not. If it feels like the right time to stop, or if another approach might suit you better, I’m happy to support you in finding the right next step.
